Many people who cannot tell a Da Vinci from a Pollocck perk up when the topic of film is broached, and offer an intelligent observation on Star Wars faster than they would offer an opinion on one of Frida Khalo’s self-portraits. Therefore, when these people see a work of art, they should not be discouraged from saying “that’s cool/awesome/sweet”, because if art can elicit even that response from an inexperienced critic, then the artist can be considered successful. Art is a universal project that should appeal to everyone, not just the higher educated who have the opportunity to tag a bunch of 25-cent phrases onto a painting. It is these “shallow” words that are often the window into someone becoming more immersed into artistic culture, so they shouldn’t be so readily dismissed—you have to walk before you run. So, Chris and Christina, I would say you’re “half right”.gmizzlehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01592717949308331648noreply@blogger.com
